Skincare for Athletes
An athlete herself, Dr. Tsai has completed more than twenty marathons and once ran ten marathons (26.2 mile races) in a 12 month period.Dr. Tsai has completed four Ironman triathlons, each one consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and finished by a 26.2 mile run.
Dr Tsai understands athletes frequently have very different skin and hair concerns than the average patient, and that some athletes- like runners, cyclists and triathletes, experience significant negative effects of sun-damage due to their extended daily exposure.
Skin Care for the Athlete
Long hours of training can result in excessive sun-damage of the skin. Athletes may not tolerate some of the treatments that most physicians prescribe and implement for skin care and hair removal, since these usually require minimal or no sun exposure. In addition, most skin care regimens do not have formulations that can withstand the conditions that athletes face – saltwater, sweat, rain, wind.
Most skin care specialists tell patients that they must avoid the sun at all costs in order to achieve optimal results. They will not prescribe certain medications for those who do not follow strict lifestyle modifications such as avoiding sun. However, Dr. Tsai understands outdoor athletes have a passion for their sports, and believes that even they can achieve beautiful skin results, under the care of the right physician.
Laser Hair removal for Athletes
There are a lot of competitive athletes to whom shaving is a must in order to achieve very good results in sports. Cyclists, swimmers, runners and many others shave their chest, back and legs. Many of them have chosen an ultimate solution to forget the trouble with continuous hair removal. They have chosen laser treatment to get rid of their unwanted hair in order to save time, nerves and money.
Imagine a smooth, gentle skin of your chest, back and legs. Imagine how nice it would be to leave shaving, waxing and tweezing behind from now until forever. Think of how wonderful it would be not to care of the stubble. Then think of laser hair removal that is the only option enabling you to forget unwanted hair on your chest, back and legs.As most traditional hair removal lasers are attracted specifically to the melanin in your skin, they are not suited to treat skin with a tan. However, because Dr. Tsai is so in tune to the needs of athletes, she has invested in several lasers, one of which is especially suited for use on tanned skin. This makes hair removal an option for those who are in the sun year round, and who are not willing to sacrifice their athleticism.
Dr. Tsai offers educational seminars on athletes’ skin care. Please email if you would like her to present to your athletic or social group.
