Botox for Teeth Clenching and Grinding: San Francisco Aesthetics

How does it work?

Dr. Tsai uses Botox and Dysport to provide patients with relief from headaches, jaw soreness, jaw popping, earaches and other side effects of Bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding). Botox or Dysport is injected into the Masseter muscle (the main muscle for chewing and biting). The muscle is temporarily weakened which prevents the muscle from clenching involuntarily while you sleep. This greatly reduces the painful side effects of Bruxism while saving your teeth!

Why is Botox for teeth clenching and grinding better than other procedures?

Many people with Bruxism will wear a mouth guard at night to protect their teeth, but this does not alleviate the pain associated with clenching and grinding your teeth while you sleep.

Botox is a great, non-invasive alternative for patients with Bruxism. With this procedure, you will still be able to chew normally and make facial expressions, but the involuntary grinding will be reduced or eliminated. This procedure requires no cutting or downtime.

Are there are any other benefits to using Botox for jaw clenching?

Botox treatments for Bruxism can also soften the appearance of the jaw line by reducing the size of the Masseter muscle. Often, patients who clench their jaw at night will have a more pronounced, square jaw line. Botox causes the muscle to decrease in size by keeping  it from grinding involuntarily, therefore slimming and contouring the jaw line.
